Camp Sweeney promotes good health and positive vibes, it is such a surreal experience being at Camp Sweeney. You are never bored, you always have something to do. If not, you have friends (new and old) to talk with, and the counselors are more than willing to help you find something to keep you preoccupied until the next activity.

Camp Sweeney is so much more than just a diabetes camp, but it being a camp for diabetics isn’t a negative thing. Sweeney Med, even though it has a reputation for being boring, is such an important class, for diabetics and nonnies alike. Knowing how dangerous it is and how to care for it, as well as knowing that it won’t, and shouldn’t, keep you from being an athlete or a singer.

Camp Sweeney is also important for mental health. When you go, you’re outside 95% of the time and if you have medication, you have to take it. Along with that, you have so many people who let you vent. You never feel alone, if you do, tell a counselor and they will let you talk about your feelings. I got overwhelmed in the cabin once, and I went to my Big Sister and she took me outside and talked to me until I was feeling better.

Sweeney is so much more than just a camp, it’s a family.

So, what does Camp Sweeney mean to me? It means good health, love, friendship, knowledge, positivity, and, of course, F-U-N!

What Sweeney means to me.. that’s a hard thing to answer sometimes..
Sweeney is a home. Sweeney is the place I love to go to no matter
how hard times are. When I cry or feel alone I know Sweeney will
be there for me.. All the friends I met and all the people I see.
Everybody who has taught me to be the light..
Was everybody here at Sweeney.. Sweeney is my home away from home..
My first year, I was so scared, But… My mentor, Hailey Seidal told
me, that she wouldn’t force me to be comfortable talking to her
about everything.. Then I learned.. She was so sweet and nice..
My friends, Lainey, Ashley, Chainey, and Caroline and everybody
else! I love this place… It’s my everything I’ll never forget the
times and smiles I had there.. Thank you Camp Sweeney and all
the associates.
