QUESTIONS ABOUT THE MEDICAL PROGRAM
Yes. Night rounds are made three or more times to check the children for signs and symptoms of low or high-blood sugar levels, perform additional blood tests and provide needed care.
Many of our campers have food allergies and/or celiac disease. Our kitchen and nutritionist work together to provide personalized meals according to dietary needs.
Camp Sweeney provides syringes, alcohol swabs, insulin, and blood testing equipment/supplies. However, if your child is using a pump or CGM while at camp you will need to pack enough supplies for the full three week session. You will need to supply all other non-diabetic medical supplies and prescription and over-the-counter medications in their original containers.
Campers are welcome to wear their sensors while at Camp. Camp Sweeney prides itself on accommodating any camper technology used at home so the habits they build at camp are applicable to their care outside of camp. Campers will be given a Camp Sweeney iPhone to be used as a receiver while at Camp. CGM readings between 70-300 will be accepted in lieu of finger stick readings at meal times. Readings outside of that range will always require confirmation with a finger stick reading. CGM trend arrows are not formulaically incorporated into dosing decisions at Camp.
No. CGMs will be connected to Camp Sweeney iPhones but will not have the share feature enabled. If you have any questions about your child’s blood sugar, feel free to contact our medical staff at any time.
Yes. Staff members are trained to use the Medtronic 670G/770G/780G hybrid closed loop pump, the Tandem t:slim X2 pump with Basal-IQ or Control-IQ, the Tandem Mobi, the Omnipod 5 (and older versions), the iLet pump, and more! New systems are added to the Camp Sweeney repertoire each year.

QUESTIONS ABOUT CAMPER LIFE AT SWEENEY

We encourage you to send cards, letters, or packages to your camper. Mail call is a BIG DEAL at Camp Sweeney!

If you use a delivery service like FedEx or UPS, our physical address is 10687 FM 678, Whitesboro TX 76273
ONLINE: A secure online parent portal called “My Sweeney” is available to let you see pictures of your child participating in various activities as well as live feed videos.
PHONE: Calls to the medical staff, head counselors, big brothers/sisters, and other staff are welcome. They are best reached at meal times and will be glad to speak with you about your child.
EMAIL: You are welcome to email your camper anytime while at camp. Please use “cabin name”@campsweeney.org (i.e. Byrne@campsweeney.org) and put the camper’s name in the subject field. Campers generally receive these within 24 hours depending on the programming. Campers can respond to parents by writing a hand-written note on the back of these emails. These are then scanned in our our office and emailed back to the parents. Due to the nature of this process and the often busy schedule of Camp Sweeney (going off-site on a field trip, nighttime activities away from cabin computers, etc.), we cannot guarantee that emails will be returned in 24 hours. Guardians should expect to receive camper emails within 3 business days of the camper’s submission of them.
FAX: Fax a letter before 11AM at (940) 665-9467. We get a few faxes everyday to put out at mail call.
During the summer session, weekly laundry service is provided for all campers. Make sure ALL clothing items are labeled with the camper’s first and last name. Laundry service is also provided for campers attending stay over weekend.
In the event of severe weather, campers will be directed to the safe rooms in our Shull Activity Center.
