How does the interview process work?
All applicants must be interviewed in person. We do not conduct interviews over the phone or over video. Interviews are informal and normally last 30-45 minutes.

Do I need a recommendation?
Yes. All medical staff applicants must have an online Recommendation Form submitted on their behalf by an individual unaffiliated with Camp Sweeney. This form may be completed by professors, employers, volunteer supervisors, etc. A letter of recommendation may be submitted in the place of the Recommendation Form.
How does the hiring process work?
If selected for a position on our staff, you will receive a contract via email. You will be asked to complete and return the contract via email or fax within 7-10 days. Additional employment paperwork will be requested at that time. If you choose to decline the position, please notify us as soon as possible.
How many people do you hire?
Each summer, Camp Sweeney employs approximately 70 counselors, 20 medical staff, 14 Program Assistants, 10 office staff, and 12 kitchen staff.
In 2020, we interviewed over 150 applicants for 45 available positions on our counseling staff.

SUMMER FACTS
What plans are being made regarding COVID-19 for summer 2023?
The health and safety of the campers and staff of Camp Sweeney is our highest priority. With the presence of COVID-19 within the United States, we are actively reviewing and updating our health-related plans and procedures for the summer of 2023. We fully intend to hold in-person sessions for the summer of 2023, and we have a communicable disease plan in place that will be revised in cooperation with public health authorities as additional COVID-19 guidance is provided as we approach summer 2023.
What is the first day of employment?
Medical Staff Development for all staff begins on May 28th, 2023.

What are the dates for each session?
First Session: June 4 – June 22, 2023

Do I have to work the entire summer?
All employees are required to work the entire duration of the summer.

Do I get time off?
Time off will be based on the position you are hired for. Generally, medical staff will be given time off from roughly 4 PM Thursday until 11 PM Friday at the completion of Development, Session 1, and Session 2 in addition to a night off during each session. Medical staff will also have individual off time during the session. With the exception of their time off, medical staff will reside at Camp Sweeney from staff development through their last day of work.
Do I get paid?
Yes. Medical staff members are paid between $3,350
Is there a dress code?
Yes. Male counselors are not allowed to have or grow facial hair or wear earrings while at camp. All other body piercings (such as tongue, nose, and naval) are not permitted by either male or female counselors. Tattoos must be covered at all times and unnatural hair color is not permitted.
There may be other dress code restrictions for safety reasons depending upon position. These restrictions will be detailed during staff development.
